What Mythical Creature Are You?

Woo Hoo! I'm a dragon...

dragon
DRAGON

You are the dragon. A dragon,
in western lore, is a giant lizard with wings.
It usually has the capability to breathe fire.
The dragon symbolizes immense power, physical
strength, and courage. The dragon has also been
a symbol of wisdom and of protection. Dragons
may also appear to be greedy as many a tale
depict them as keepers of vast hordes of
treasure.

Happy Birthday Marines!

Semper Fi and Happy Birthday. 230 years old and still going strong. I'm proud to live next to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Here's a good article from NRO to start your day.

There is also a great book about a great man. General Lewis "Chesty" Puller's story is an inspiring one. The book "Marine: The Life of Chesty Puller" written by Burke Davis is excellent.

California Special Election

Here are my votes for the special election tomorrow in San Diego.

Mayor: Jerry Sanders - Former San Diego Police Chief, Former Head of the Red Cross and United Way. Mr Sanders turned the Red Cross in San Diego from a spurned and disdained agency into one that is trusted by the citizens of this city. He also won the debate against Donna Frye last night.

Prop 73: Yes. My daughter should have to notify me if she wants an abortion. A doctor needs my permission to give her cold medicine. A surgical procedure should need the same permission.

Prop 74: Yes. Expanding tenure probation from 2 years to 5 years is a small part of the reforms that our school system needs.

Prop 75: Yes.

Prop 76: Yes. This one also does not go far enough.

Prop 77: Yes. I'm a little nervous about this one but the gerrymandering done in the past is criminal.

Prop 78: No.

Prop 79: No.

Prop 80: Absolutely not.

See you at the ballot box.

Lanber Over Under Shotguns

I joined my local Skeet and Trap club last year. It was a great decision for me. I've met some really nice people and learned a new skill. I have a pretty nice Berretta Urika 391 but was at a disadvantage to the guys with over/unders. After a little shopping, I went in to America Shooting Center and noticed the Lanbers. They were sitting next to the 3 to 4 thousand dollar shotguns. The low end Lanber was around $350 and the high end was less than $700. I looked at one of them and it was beautiful. The wood was very nice and the fit with the metal was excellent. Lanber has been a beginners shotgun in Europe for years.

I've seen 15 and 20 thousand dollar shotguns at the club. I've also seen guys with cheap pump shotguns outshoot everyone in the field. In other words, the cost of the gun is not going to help you if you can't shoot. I ended up buying the 2088 in 12 gauge. It's been excellent. There have been no misfires and the fit and finish is excellent. The only downside is the chokes. It's not easy to find replacements right now. There is supposedly an aftermarket replacement but I haven't found it yet. If you're looking for a nice over/under and don't want to spend an arm and a leg, check it out.

Islam and the West

Gates of Vienna has an excellent post from Halloween about Islam and Christianity. There is a great post just about every day from Gates of Vienna but this one in particular has struck a chord with me and deserves more recognition. Check it out.
